Mausoleums are Simeon Soden (synths / programming) Elliot Reeves (vocal / synths), an electronic two piece influenced by 80s minimal wave, witch house and Industrial. Combining expansive synths, drum machines and reverb laden, distorted vocals to create a haunting industrial soundscape. Mausoleums capture the brooding intensity of Carpenter’s films, played out in minimalist repetition. Mausoleums perform backed by live video projection created using VCRs, horror films and mangled games consoles. Notable performances include NARC. Fest and supporting Blanck Mass. Key influences include Salem, Crystal Castles, New Order, Martin Dupont, Psychic Rites as well as vintage and analogue hardware.

The single, GYRE, is a about the environment, the music was originally inspired by the phenomena of ocean gyres, a vortex of currents caused by circulating winds, where the world’s oceans coalesce. Plastic, chemical waste and other floating debris are drawn into the gyres creating huge concentrations of waste. Some estimates state up to 88% of the surface of the ocean is now covered by plastic debris which has far reaching ecological implications. The lyrics in response to this reflect, in a slightly dream-like way, about our effect on the environment, pollution and climate change and our collective indecision and the denial in some quarters about our effect on the planet.

The lyrically EP covers other themes too and as Elliot puts it:
“I inspire myself , it's based on life now , I've had enough of fantasy. I'm at a stage in life where I want to be as honest as possible with myself and others , whether they want to hear it or not , I guess I'm inspired by my mistakes and accomplishments. lyrically I'm talking about real life subjects: anxiety, am I good enough? , environment, depression, loneliness, the happiness of finding new love and religion.”
